Overview
A long read, but one that will stick with me for some time. I restarted this book three or four times before I really got into the story but I am glad I did. It wasn’t a book that I read overnight, but one that I continued to read little bits, day after day. I found the story very sad and it was clear that I was emotionally involved by the end. I read a lot of books and a lot of them don’t stick with me but this is one that I think will stay. It was unique, interesting, and well worth the £0.99 that I paid :).
Story
The main character in this story is Cordelia Russell. This book follows Cordelia from when she was a young child until she is well into adulthood. At the beginning of the story we learn that someone has died, but it was not until the end of the story did I realize that things were coming full circle.
Throughout the story other characters speak about Cordelia, and forgetting about the murder at the beginning, I didn’t understand why they were telling me about how they viewed her and things that she did, but I did enjoy these outsider perspectives of the main character. As much as I wanted to love Cordelia, as the story continued, I learned more and more things about her that just made me unable to like her. I learned about so many unfortunate events that happened in her life as the story went on, but despite this I could not fathom her actions. This story is full of so much tragedy that it was sometimes hard to imagine anymore would come but Liz Nugent manged to continue packing in tragedy until the very end of the book. How many murders were there really? And how many people were involved?
Audiobook
The Audiobook was narrated by Sophie Ward, Daniel Betts, Annette Flynn, Declan Rodgers, Anna Maria Everett, Trev Fleming, and Michael Gould. I paid £2.99 for the Audiobook version after buying the kindle version for £0.99. I don’t think I have ever listened to a book that had so many narrators and usually I really dislike having multiple narrators. For whatever reason though, in this book I didn’t mind and felt that it helped me differentiate the characters. I thought the performance was done very well and would recommend the audiobook version. The listening Length is 11 hours and 40 minutes so it is a pretty good deal for the price as well.
Recommended For
I would recommend this book for anyone who enjoys thrillers. I don’t think this book had as many wow moments or unexpected moments as other thrillers that I have read but it still was a story that I can tell will stay with me for a long time.
